Prof. Asoc. Dr. Agreta Gecaj-Gashi FESAIC
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Agreta Gecaj-Gashi was born on 8 February 1973 in Peja. She completed her primary and secondary education in Gjakova and graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in 1997.
From 1999 to 2004 she specialised at the Clinic of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care of the University Clinical Centre of Kosovo, completing part of her training at the University Clinical Centre of Zagreb. In 2004, after passing the specialist examination, she obtained the title Specialist in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care.
In 2007 she completed her master’s studies at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Prishtina, with the thesis “The effects of adjuvants combined with bupivacaine in spinal anaesthesia and balanced analgesia”, obtaining the title Master of Medical Sciences.
In 2015 she defended her doctoral dissertation at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje on “Low-flow and minimal-flow anaesthesia: effects on respiratory, hepatic and renal function, consciousness and emergence agitation”, earning the title Doctor of Medical Sciences.
From 2010 to 2018 she was a teaching assistant at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Prishtina in the subject Anaesthesiology and Resuscitation. Since 2017 she has been a lecturer at AAB College, where in 2020 she was appointed Assistant Professor.
From 2020 to 2023 she was a member and chair of the Board of Directors of the University Clinical Hospital Service of Kosovo (ShSKUK), and in 2022–2023 she was a member of the Steering Board of the Health Insurance Fund.
In 2024 she was elected President of the Kosovo Society of Anaesthesiologists and Intensivists.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gecaj-Gashi was a member of the ESAIC Council (European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care) from 2014 to 2020. Since 2020 she has been a member of the NASC (National Anaesthesiologists Societies Committee) within ESAIC. Since 2023 she has served as CEEA Director (Committee for European Education in Anaesthesiology) for the Kosovo centre.
In June 2025 the European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care awarded her the FESAIC (Fellow of European Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care) diploma.
She currently practises at the University Clinical Centre of Kosovo, in the Clinic of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care. In parallel, she continues her academic and teaching work at AAB College, in the departments of Dentistry and Nursing, as Assistant Professor.
She is the author and co-author of a large number of publications in prestigious scientific journals, with around 3,000 citations and an h-index of 20 on Google Scholar. She has been a guest lecturer at many national and international conferences and congresses, and has served as National Coordinator in five international scientific projects.
She is the author of the monograph “Application of adjuvants in spinal anaesthesia” and co-author of chapters in two books: “Emergency Medicine” and “Surgery for Nurses”.
