The vision and mission of KSAI

Vision

To promote the professional role of anaesthesiologists and enhance perioperative patient outcomes through a focus on quality of care and patient safety strategies in the Republic of Kosovo.

Mission

KSAI is dedicated to supporting professionals in anaesthesiology, intensive care, pain management and perioperative medicine. We serve as the hub for the development and dissemination of valuable educational, scientific and research resources, as well as networking opportunities. We collaborate with institutional stakeholders to improve patient care in these fields. Our aim is to raise awareness of the vital role of anaesthesiologists in the healthcare system, including perioperative care, resuscitation, intensive care and pain management.

History

Key milestones

  1. 1984

    The first generation of Albanian anaesthesiologists begins at the University Clinical Centre, with Dr. Sokol Hajdini.

  2. 1988

    Anaesthesiology is organised as a separate service and Intensive Care with ventilators is established.

  3. 2000

    The Clinic of Anaesthesiology with Intensive Care and the Kosovo Society of Anaesthesiologists (AsKoAn) are founded, with Dr. Hysen Hyseni as its first president.

  4. 2007

    AsKoAn becomes a member of the ESA; the first postgraduate education course under FEEA patronage is held in Prishtina.

  5. 2009

    AsKoAn becomes a member of the global WFSA family as the Republic of Kosovo.

  6. 2013

    The Department of Anaesthesiology and Resuscitation is founded at the Faculty of Medicine.

  7. 2014

    For the first time, a representative of AsKoAn sits on the ESAIC Council.

  8. 2020

    To align with ESAIC, AsKoAn becomes the Kosovo Society of Anaesthesiologists and Intensivists (KSAI).
